Workshops – 2017

Saturday 22 April: workshops 

The Grassmarket Centre, 86 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh EH1 2QA

All tickets £8/£5 per workshop. Booking information here

Choose 1 of the 2 options per time slot. (Children aged 9+ are able to attend workshops, as long as they are at the level specified and accompanied by an adult.)

11.30am-1.00pm:

  1. Finnish Songs – Kalevala Poems & Rune Song Melodies (Elina Lappalainen): No knowledge of Finnish required. For all, including beginners OR 
  2. Norwegian Tunes (Jon Hjellum Brodal): Learn tunes that can also be used for playing for Norwegian dances. For all melody instruments – Intermediate level upwards.

1.30-3.00pm:

  1. Norwegian Dances (Reidun Berg): Be prepared for the evening ceilidh – no prior Norwegian dance knowledge required! For all, including beginners OR
  2. Finnish Tunes (Olli Kari & Elina Lappalainen): Learn tunes that can also be used for playing for Finnish dances. For all melody instruments – Intermediate level upwards.

3.30-5.00pm:

  1. Scottish & Swedish Tunes (Lärka – Eilidh Steel & Alice Thorsell): For all melody instruments – Intermediate upwards OR
  2. Finnish dances (Olli Kari & Elina Lappalainen): Be prepared for the evening ceilidh – no prior knowledge required! For all including beginners.

 5.00-6.30pm Sharing session with all invited guest performers and participants to get a chance to share what they have learnt from the workshops and performances. (Free with any ticket)
